Why people come

Every first appointment starts with a diagnostic assessment. Nothing is decided before that.

Worry that won’t let go, sudden attacks, situations you end up avoiding.
What NICE recommends →Depression
Low mood or loss of interest lasting more than two weeks, fatigue, disrupted sleep and appetite.
The care pathway, step by step →Sleep problems
Insomnia, waking too early, a body clock thrown off by relocation or frequent travel.
Sleep advice ranked by evidence →Burnout
Work exhaustion, and its lesser-known cousin: chronic boredom from too little to do.
Book an appointment →Adult ADHD
Distraction, forgetfulness and disorganisation present since childhood and still getting in the way.
Book an appointment →Adjusting to expat life

First appointment
What to expect
You book
On WhatsApp or by phone, with the clinic’s front desk. They tell you before the visit what your insurance covers. No need to describe your symptoms in the message.
We take stock
Your history, your medication, past treatment. Bring prescriptions and reports, even old ones, even in French: they save a lot of time.
We decide together
If medication is indicated, we discuss it, benefits and side effects included. The psychotherapy offered is supportive therapy. With your consent, a letter goes to your doctor.
Evidence-based
What the decisions rest on
Dr Stroescu edits Psychiatry Evidence Base, the journal published on this site. He reads studies and guidelines the way he would in clinic: what is proven, what is only suggested, what remains expert opinion.
In practice, if a treatment is offered to you, you can see what it rests on and where its limits are. Some of the tools are open to everyone.

Before you book
Psychiatrist or psychologist: what’s the difference?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. He makes a diagnosis, looks for medical causes of the symptoms, prescribes when needed, and can work alongside your psychologist. A psychologist is not a medical doctor and does not prescribe.
Which languages are consultations held in?
English, French or Romanian, as the patient prefers.
Will my insurance cover the consultation?
It depends on your policy. The Happiness Clinic front desk checks with you before the appointment, including whether your insurer first requires a GP referral letter.
Do you see children and teenagers?
No, consultations are for adults only. Happiness Clinic also offers a child and adolescent psychiatry service.
Can I have a video consultation from Dubai?
No. In the UAE, telehealth requires a facility-specific authorisation, so patients living in Dubai are seen at the clinic. Video consultations remain available for patients in France, through the Nice practice.
I already take medication. What should I bring?
Your prescriptions, the exact names and doses of your medicines, and any reports you have. Documents in French need no translation.
What should I do in an emergency?
Don’t wait for an appointment. In the UAE, call 998 (ambulance) or 999 (police); the national mental health support line is 800 4673. In France, call 15, 112, or 3114.
For referrers
Referring a patient
Psychologists, GPs, school teams and HR departments can send a request by phone to the front desk of the relevant site. Medical details are not sent by ordinary email: the front desk tells you which channel to use. After the first consultation, a letter is sent to you if the patient agrees.
Four things that save time
- The reason for referral, in one or two lines
- Current medication, psychotropic or not
- Known history, including previous treatment
- How urgent the situation seems, which sets the waiting time
